What is a Chamber of Commerce?

What is a Chamber of Commerce? A Chamber of Commerce is the first place people call to learn about a community, whether they are looking to visit, relocate, start a business, or just seeking general information about a town or city.

A chamber of commerce is a voluntary partnership of businesses, organizations, individuals, and professionals, working together to build a healthy economy and to improve the quality of life in a community. As a chamber works to accomplish these goals, traditionally it performs many different functions: economic developer and planner, tourist information, business spokesperson, economic counselor and teacher, government relations specialist, human resources advisor, and public relations practitioner.

Who Are a Chamber’s Members? Chamber of Commerce members are businesses, organizations, and individuals concerned with the socioeconomic climate of a community.

These groups join together because they stand a better chance of getting things done when speaking with one voice and using networking channels. Chamber members include small to large businesses and organizations from the mom-and-pop shop around the corner, home-based businesses, the established big businesses,  to your local baseball team or organization.

The Colony’s Chamber of Commerce was established in 1979. And while its functions are unique to our city and community needs, it is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote business development, economic growth, and quality of life within The Colony and surrounding area. The chamber is operated solely by volunteers sharing community interest. It is funded solely by membership dues and fundraisers.

This year alone over 40 new members joined The Colony Chamber of Commerce and the chamber hosted over 35 networking events. It continues to provide news and information to residents and the general public through The Colony ConnectionTM Magazine, chamber website, new comer bags, and additional resources.

If you are an individual, organization, or business that is community oriented but not sure how to connect, The Colony Chamber of Commerce welcomes you, your inquiries and ideas.

The Colony Chamber of Commerce is proud to serve its community and businesses as it has been for 34 celebrated years. We look forward to continuing to serve the community and its businesses in 2014 and beyond. If you wish to become involved or have any inquiries about your local chamber of commerce, please feel free to call us at 214-705-3075 or email us at info@thecolonychamber.org.

Wishing the best this Holiday Season!
